Craigmaddie Muir Farm began in the mid 1980’s with a small number of cows and sheep which grazed the 250 acre moor, the moor has been in our family for 100 years. Today the estate is over 400 acres in size and is therefore able to support a large flock of ewes and a herd of pedigree Aberdeen Angus cows.
The roundhouse accommodation is a farm diversification opportunity which we discussed running for some years. Whenever friends and family visit us at home they are always astounded by the views and scenery and we therefore felt that diversifying in to holiday accommodation was the right thing to do. We felt sure that people would enjoy staying here as much as we do!
On deciding to go in this direction we secured partial funding from Kelvin Valley Leader, which is aimed at this kind of farm diversification project. This allowed us to commission the building of a beautiful and high quality bespoke wooden roundhouse. We wanted it to be totally unique.
